Bike24 GmbH is one of Europe’s leading online retailers of bicycles and sporting goods, based in Dresden. The success story began in 2002 with one employee. In the meantime, around 350 employees are working every day in the interest of satisfied customers. The e-commerce company inspires cyclists and athletes worldwide. The approximately 100,000 products are shipped to more than 70 countries.

E-commerce is developing unabatedly. Mail order companies face the problem of insufficient storage space. Especially when the company grows and expands, the warehouse often becomes too small. Of course, another distribution center could be built at this location. But often there is no more space at the current location. An enlargement of the existing warehouse is also hardly possible.

But how then to deal with the situation? An efficient storage solution is needed that drastically reduces the space required and gives the retailer enough flexibility. One such system is the “AutoStore” storage system from the Norwegian supplier Hatteland, which is used by the Dresden-based online retailer Bike24.

By switching to the “AutoStore” storage system, Bike24 has managed to reduce its storage space by half. In addition, the system can be expanded as required. “Bike24 has implemented a solution that grows with the customer. The ‘Auto Store’ system can be expanded at will and can also be moved to a new building.

The conceptual design of the ‘Auto Store’ system was carried out by DAHMS consulting.
